Chris Thorson, Trainee

Chris Thorson (she/her) is a trainee-level clinician who sees each person as a whole being whose relationships, environment, biology, culture, and lived experiences shape who they are. Chris’s goal is to create a therapeutic space that feels safe, genuine, and curious where clients can enhance their self-awareness and agency without being judged or defined by their struggles. She believes that therapy is a collaborative process and that meaningful change can happen when people feel seen, respected, and supported in exploring new possibilities.

Chris believes that play and creative expression can support the therapeutic process for people of all ages. Play and expressive arts experiences can open pathways to awareness, meaning-making, and growth while providing ways to explore feelings without words, connect with bodily experiences, gain perspective on challenges, and find new self-knowledge. Creativity can take many forms, and therapy can be a space for clients to discover what feels meaningful and useful to them.

Chris is in her second year of counselor training and is pursuing an M.A. in Marriage, Family, and Couples Counseling at Adler Graduate School. Her path to counseling began through nearly two decades of teaching art to children, adolescents, and adults. For over 15 years she worked at an arts-focused boarding school where she supported adolescents in identity development, creative problem solving, self-expression, interpersonal growth and social-emotional learning.
